The original building, built circa 1840, was a one and a half story, three room cottage with two rooms - the parlor and the sitting room - divided by a plank wall on the first floor. A bedroom was over the present parlor. There was no hall at this time Access to the bedroom was via a ladder.

The parlor and sitting room were created to be opened into one large space and originally has the same interior treatment in each room. Originally they had a foldaway partition that was immediately found to be structurally unsound and was altered to a smaller double door opening.

Both these rooms have elegant floor to ceiling 6/6 sash windows. The antique windows in the sitting room are antique originals that remained with the house (one was found in the basement of the house before moving).

Much of the furniture is Empire style (1850-1840), the style used inGreek Revival houses.
